The Television Trophy 1952-1968
- The Television Trophy was awarded annually following competition between three teams of three Trials Cars from the North the Midlands and the South. Each team was allowed one reserve car and the competition took place at Halton RAF Camp, in Buckinghamshire.
- There were a number of hills and the object was to get the highest score possible the hills being graded by 5 points, 10 points and 15 points if you reached the top.
- The commentator was Raymond Baxter and following the event he took us to a local hostelry for a meal and to present the awards.
- In 1968 I was the reserve driver for the Midlands Team a team consisting of Ivor Portlock ( Captain), Laurie Brown and Bill Warr and myself. Soon after the start Laurie Brown`s car broke down and he had to go and find a garage where he could get it welded. This enabled me to start, and he only came back for the last hill or two. The Midlands Team won the day. Sadly the first three members of the team have all passed away.
- The trophy was supposed to go round to each member in turn but it never reached me until the Peterborough Motor Club Dinner on February 17th 2007 having been found 20 years earlier at a house in Cambridge belonging to Bertie Sayers who was a member of the winning team the previous year (1967).
- Norman Manser February 2007
