What we do

Peterborough Motor Club

Rallies

  • Navigational Road Rallies
  • Stage Rallies

Sporting Trials.

The essence of these trials is to progress through a course laid out on difficult terrain without touching any of the marker posts or coming to an involuntary halt.  Usually they involve climbing steep hills, but due to the prevailing Lincolnshire flatness our events are usually located in quarries or similar, with short up and down sections.

The cars are specially built to the Blue Book regulations for a driver and bouncer to compete.  They have front cycle wheels with enormous lock, and fiddle brakes to control traction. The skills necessary to complete sections involve delicate throttle control, accurate postioning, and the ability to read the surface of the course.

The PMC events are part of a national series, and have received acclaim from many competitors.

Silverstone Race Meeting

This is an annual event for the club and has now been going for over 50 years. The circuit is hired by the club and up to ten races are provided in a day with practice in the morning, and 8, 10 or 12 lap races in the afternoon.  This involves a huge amount of organisation as anything up to 250 competitors need to be catered for during the day.

The club has earned an enviable reputation for putting on events which are recognised as being some of the best run, and value for money, club racing events available in the UK.

The club tries to include in the programme a large range of races for many different types of racing car, from Formula Ford and Formula V to Formula Libre and high powered sports racing saloon championships.

Practice/Track Days

For many years the club has hired a circuit for a practice day, affording several hours safe spirited driving on one of the counties most interesting circuits, for club members and invitees, using anything from shopping diesels to full race machinery.

This is subsidised for club members from income derived from other events.

 Timing

The club has a dedicated timing team who provide the expertise and usually the equipment for a large range of sporting activities.

These are mostly sprints at various courses in the south east, however the team has helped out at the London Marathon and the Barcelona Olympics. The timing process usually involves setting up all the timing beams and associated wiring and computers, testing the system, then providing accurate timings for full and part course participation of the competitors. This is a fascinating field for those interested in providing support at many varied events at minimal cost to themselves.

 Autocross

The club no longer organises autocross events due to a reduction in interest by competitors in this part of the country, but still has a wealth of expertise in this interesting off road motorsport available to interested club members.

 Marshalling

The club provides marshalls to many events, which offers the opportunity to become involved in motorsport at a more interesting level.  We have provided start marshalls on stages of the RAC Rally (now the Wales Rally GB), and flag and rescue marshalls at other race, trials and rally events.
